SOUNDS AND SIGHTS OF HAVANA
In March Ami traveled to Havana for his cousin’s wedding. Whilst soaking in this environment, in some ways very much stuck in time, slowly crumbling but with glimmers of moving forward, he managed to document some of the people and events he encountered.
The night before the wedding, Ami attended a performance of Orquesta Akokán, his cousin’s band Grammy nominated band, playing some old school Cuban Salsa at the Teatro Americano.
The first night in Havana, quick sharpie and watercolor sketches over Arroz con Pollo of fellow patrons of Cafeteria 23 y H Pa Comer y Llevar.
The wedding reception, held at La Guarida restaurant, was a night of music and dancing with a 360 degree view of Old Havana.
Ami’s aunt Beatrice Plasse playing Bach’s Sonata #1027 on the piano in the house where the family was staying.
Last day in Havana, a quick sketch over a Tuna sandwich and espresso in the El Dandy cafe.
