NOTLEY GROUP MURAL CREATION WORKSHOP

Austin’s Notley was having an offsite in Burnet, TX and were looking for a creative team-building activity. They also had a new office desperately in need of some art on its walls. That is why it was so serendipitous when Gonzo Viz swooped in to fulfill both needs. Pre event we took the Notley logo and key visual and gridded it out, creating 56 unique tiles, which we brought with us up to Burnet along with a whole mess of art supplies—paint, cut paper, pastels, cardboard and, of course, Mod Podge.

After going over some basics and background, each member of the Notley Crüe got 2 tiles and instead of a paint-by-numbers exercise, they were give a mandate to decorate them in their own way and express themselves, as long as they paid attention to the basic structure of the image and the relative lights and darks. There was quite a bit of apprehension at first, especially amongst those who did not consider themselves “creative,” but once they got going, started applying materials to a surface and creating, an artistic intensity took over and by the end of the day “Mod Podge” was being used as a verb.

We had some intermittent check-ins, to see how the piece was coming together and made some adjustments. Once everyone had finished their tiles we packed them up and took them back to Austin, mounted them all together and installed it in the Notley office, to adorn the walls for all of its creators to enjoy.
